Hi Salseras and Salseros,
If you have just taken up dancing salsa, then you are just discovering why 1000s of us enjoy going out once, twice or even thrice a week. It is the combination of meeting new people, getting the heart pumping through exercise, the joy of the music and the ability to make the people around you smile.
I've seen guys asking girls to dance and girls asking guys and invariably just that outheld hand creates the smile, whether it is between people who are regular partners or even when it is a brand new friendship for the duration of a track.
www.Londonsalsa.co.uk aims to multiply those truly positive feelings. We list lessons for all levels and many of the best events in London and the South East. We would like to be comprehensive but at the moment I can only promise you the best selection. Whether you are based in the centre of town, in the suburbs or simply visiting for a week or weekend, have a peek through the site to find that perfect night out.
For all of us it starts with those first tentative steps. If you've never had a lesson, you don't know what to expect. Most of the classes in London don't expect you to come with a partner; simply turn up, It is worth asking whether there is discount for London Salsa members as many of the teachers and promoters do oblige. Then prepare to have your 2 left feet turned into a proper pair. It isn't easy but that in itself is part of the challenge. The pleasure of knowing you have "got" the basic or doing your first spin or in the case of leaders, enabling your partner to comfortably follow you is a thrill. You won't get a big gold star but you'll have a feeling of achievement.
As you develop as a dancer, you'll gain the confidence to go social dancing at parties and the bigger events. But definitely take the chance to social dance after each lesson with your fellow students. As they say, practice makes perfect.
If you want to develop more quickly, why not do a couple of lessons each week or attend one of the all day workshops or even ask you teacher whether they do private lessons? |
