With spring aspringing around us, the fields of daffodils popping up and sun showing itself more often, hopefully you are seeing people smile more often.
It is sort of similar on the dance floor as many of the brand new beginners from January are now popping up on the social scene and are putting smiles on their teacher’s faces as the spin to the tunes from the DJ booths. If you are a long time dancer, remember what you felt like at your first socials - and then make sure they are made as welcome as you were.
I'm sure all your teachers have instilled the essence of welcome, so guys ask the girls, girls ask the guys and only say no if you are truly tired. Part of the glory of our dance is that actually it is leader and follower, so guys can be the girls and vice versa. Put a smile on someone's face this weekend and ask someone who you have never danced with. Personally I am always flattered and honoured when I'm asked for a dance.
Lessons, courses and workshops are for learning predominantly but we all learn from each other whilst on the dance floor, however judge your partner's real needs. Are they looking for a fabulous lesson free dance or do they really want you to teach?
Again, personally I love to learn and to offer help when asked but actually on some tracks I simply want to go for it. I'm there to exercise my body and mind. I want every muscle to be tired when I leave, that includes my lip muscles, whether it is from enjoying a chat or smiling as I lead nearly perfectly and get a beam, a squeal of joy or even a peck on the cheek.
If I've waxed too lyrical, I apologise but it is what makes me want to dance more often. That is also why I enjoy overseeing LondonSalsa.co.uk. I just hope we inspire you to dance more often for good health and fun whilst providing the free platform for all your teachers to list lessons and the party promoters to raise awareness their band events, parties and all-nighters. |
