Description: We’re looking to create the biggest Flash Mob in London. Do you want to be a part of it? With its prime location in the very heart of central London, nestled away between the hustle and bustle of Piccadilly Circus and the crisp paper lanterns of Chinatown, is the Ruby Blue Bar on Leicester Square. From the entrance, Ruby Blue’s chic, sophisticated hall leads to the ground floor and the first bar. On Saturday afternoons, simply make your way to the back of the room, where you’ll find us and our dancing lessons! “Arriba, arriba!” “Policia ella!” “DAME!” Manuel, a Spanish engineer, is here to teach you Merengue, Bachata and Salsa, whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to brush up on your moves. New students and regulars alike pair up, hand in hand with their partner, forming one big circle (‘Rueda’) and following the teacher’s moves as they go. Friendliness is the motto: everybody changes partner so as to have a turn dancing with everyone else. Before each changeover, Manuel asks each pair of dancers to hi-five (‘Hi5!’) their current partner by way of thanks and to maintain a positive vibe between all participants. Check out this short video to get an idea of what the lessons look like: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx7hNZxz-bQ Each participant is given a name tag with their name and nationality, as the event also aims to offer an opportunity for language exchange. The dance class is certainly a cosmopolitan one at that: not confident about your English? No problem! Manuel also speaks fluent Spanish and French and has a strong grounding in Italian, Polish, and Japanese, having lived in a number of different countries. To make sure the class is easy to follow, he gives each new step an easily memorable name. Learners can then practice the ‘Sombrero’ or the ‘Policia’ all together. Once the lesson is over, there’s plenty of time left for freestyle practice, dancing with friends or, better still, with people you just met! If you need a break, you can enjoy a cool, refreshing drink or even a tasty Spanish sangria before hitting the dance floor once more. Want to see for yourself? Check out Manuel and his assistant dancing after the lesson: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOWAfEXhvJg First and foremost, however, Ruby Blue is a bar, and a gem at that, with some of the best classic, unique, and with-a-twist cocktails on offer for around £8 each. The ‘Soho Sling’, for example, reflects the inspiration of nearby Chinatown with its succulent lychee taste. The ‘London Mule’ offers a quirky rhubarb flavour - perfect for the adventurous cocktail fan looking for something a bit different. Later on, when the night really gets going and the bar starts to get crowded, you can head up or down to any one of Ruby Blue’s four floors or enjoy the view from the balcony directly overlooking Leicester Square.
