Maykel Blanco and his Salsa Mayor spun their way into the Havana music scene fifteen years ago and remain the most popular live band in Cuba. Maykel combines catchy lyrics with irresistible dancefloor-ready arrangements to make his songs favourites among DJs and dancers.
Last year he had two huge hits on the island with both Ya Tu No Coronas and Que Tiene Que Tu Mueve (the title track of the new album) reaching #1 in the charts of Cuba’s most important radio stations.
Maykel Blanco was born in 1981 in Havana, and at the age of twelve, began to study percussion at night school and later on at the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory. He formed his own band at fifteen and then, in 2005, took over the musical direction of Salsa Mayor, which is known there as ‘The Musical Machine of Cuba.’
Dorance Lorza & Sexteto Café is one of the leading bands in London’s vibrant salsa scene. Pioneering the worldwide ‘salsa con vibes’ revival at the turn of the century, Sexteto Café was one of the first bands in Europe to favour the small combo salsa sound of 1960s/1970s bands like Joe Cuba’s Sextet rather than that of the more common big brass-heavy salsa orchestras of the day.
Colombian born band leader Dorance Lorza has an impressive record as a musician, arranger, composer and producer, working with the biggest names in Colombian salsa music such as Grupo Niche, Los Del Caney, Los Titanes, Los Nemus Del Pacifico, Orquesta Canela, Santiago Ceron, La Octava Dimension, Kike Harvey, Cali Aleman and Fruko y su Orquesta and is a regular at La Feria de Cali.
